Let’s say that winter is approaching & you are mournful at the prospect of no fresh vegetables on the table. With a tiny planning, your season of vegetable gardening doesn’t must finish with shorter & colder days of winter.

My experience in November in Wyoming, with temperatures in the teenagers & twenties, shows healthy & vigorous turnips, lettuce, bok choi & Swiss chard in a single layer greenhouse. The greenhouse is not heated either. Read the rest of this entry »

When designing a flower garden, color perhaps the single most important consideration, but need not be the one. Bedding or herbaceous plants have form, size, & shape. Their leaves also possess a sure, visual texture.

Examples of such bedding plants to name a few, would include, Achillea, (Yarrow) Brachycome, Bidens, Felicia, & Chrysanthemum frutescens. While all the above belong to the same botanical relatives, (Asteraceae) plants belonging to other families may even be found to possess similar leaf shapes.
